TRANSPORTATION & TRAFFIC: Will the Future Be Free of Congestion?
There are times – especially on weekends or when winter swells arrive – when automobiles and people invade the North Shore en masse. Can – or will – anything be done about the growing congestion, especially given the addition of visitors to Kuilima Resort?
The answer is “yes, there are many things that can and will be done.”
For starters, our plans call for shuttles from Honolulu International Airport to the resort and within the North Shore itself; this means that our visitors will not need to rent cars either to get to the resort or to explore the surrounding area. We’ll also provide a regular shuttle service for those who work at the resort, running from Haleiwa to Ka’aawa. And, by employing residents who currently commute to work as far away as Waikiki, we’ll be taking hundreds if not several thousand cars off the highway each and every day.
In the spirit of environmental necessity and grass roots pragmatism, we also intend to encourage an electric shuttle and bike-oriented transportation system from Laie to Kawela Bay.
Our plan also includes $15 million for significant highway improvements including channelized intersections, an efficient signal system, right and left turn lanes at intersections, Oio bridge safety improvements, and more.
